I want to thank everyone who left a comment or sent an email telling me you were thinking of and praying for Gage. It meant a lot to me. We had our last doctor appointments this week. Poor Gage (and Mommy) had an hour and a half EEG. This meant 24 wires glued to his head. I thought the 40 minutes it took to attach them all was excruciating, but the next hour and a half when he was supposed to be still without me touching him was, um, interesting. Didn’t they know he was only four months old?! Well, after a ten minute meltdown in the middle and about 30 minutes of me singing his favorite songs over and over (Old McDonald and Jesus Loves Me are staples) it was done. We then had two neurology appointments that same day and there was good and cautious news. His EEG was normal and we’ll just have to wait and see if it happens again before they can test for more metabolic disorders. We also met with the GI pediatrician and she wants to do one more blood test this month, but she said she was looking at a healthy baby, hooray!
So, we still don’t know what happened. At this point it might be that we never do and that would be a great thing. I am still vigilant but not nearly as terrified as I was two weeks ago. I mean look at the guy on the left, how can I not focus on that fact that he is happy and well?
And, drumroll please, Gage laughed for the first time last night. He gave me and then his dad several belly laughs apiece and I can’t believe how giddy we were over them. It’s amazing how that sound can make stress just go away 🙂

Oh, that picture is so adorable. Love that little Gage gave his mommy and daddy some belly laughs!
It was a sweet, sweet sound after the last few weeks!
Oh Stacy, I got tears in my eyes as I read this. I’m so glad the tests were normal and you have such a sweet, happy baby!
Sweet and happy MOST of the time 🙂
(Hugs) I’m so happy!
Thanks! Me too 🙂
I am in love with that face…look at that smile!!! He’s going to be just fine!!
That’s what I keep telling myself!
A belly laugh can wipe away quite a bit of stress can’t it? LOVING that photo! I’m cautiously optimistic for you. And I can’t imagine how they expected that EEG to happen! I’m amazed it did get done.
He looks fantastically happy to me!!!
I’m cautiously optimistic too. The one blood test left could give us an explanation, but at this point I could live without one.
I’m so glad Gage is doing so well! Isn’t it wonderful to hear his first laugh! 🙂
It was the best moment in weeks!
What a doll! I’m so glad to hear about the tests! But I think you need some new songs! LOL
Well, I’ve recently added all the songs from The Sound of Music, but they aren’t faves yet 😉
That’s great news that he’s doing so well! Yeah! It’s so hard to see our kids sick. I hope he continues on this healthy path! I love the picture! He’s adorable!!!!!
It is nice to see him acting like himself 🙂
Such good news, Stacy. And there’s just nothing like that first belly laugh is there? Made me smile just reading about it. I’m sending you all good thoughts and wishes 🙂
Good thoughts are always appreciated, Mary. Thank you.
PS I used to sing Edelweiss to my kids when they were young.
LOL! I love The Sound of Music and need to watch it again so I can get some of the songs down that I’ve forgotten. That’s one of them 🙂
I want to hold him! That is an adorable photo. Just be positive and it will be fine. I send you my love and hugs. (Do give GAGE a bit from those!!!)
Gage will definitely get lots of those hugs, thank you 🙂
I love that happy, happy face and I wish I could hear his laughter.
Me too! Jason is the only one he’s laughing for right now!
Oh gosh! Baby belly laughs are the best, aren’t they? They will cure what ails you. He looks so happy in that picture. Sweet, sweet baby boy.
I know it’s frustrating not having a definitive test result as to what happened, but you just have to have hope that it was a fluke of nature and will never happen again. We all hope that for you.
XOXO
Thank you Susan. I do hope it was just an overreaction by the ER doctor, which is what some of the other drs. have suggested.
I can’t wait to hear him laugh. Nothing lights up my world like his smiles, so I will be absolutely thrilled to hear him laugh. Love the picture!
You’ll have to work for the laughs 🙂
He’s so adorable. I’m glad the tests are normal.
So far, so good.
So glad the tests came back normal. The photo is adorable… Gage looks like he’s ready to break out in laughter. Enjoy each and every one of those belly laughs – they are such gifts!
They are gifts, but he’s still being stingy with them right now 😉
So glad to hear everything seems to be normal. I’m also glad you shared about his belly laugh. I can just imagine it in my ears and see the joy on both of your faces. Life is good.
Life is good and I’m thankful each and every day.
Yay for good news! It’s hard not getting answers but it’s wonderful that they are ruling things out. Babies can be a mystery and we’ve had strange ailments in our family too. My nephew had water on the brain before he was born, was closely monitored and it went away on it’s own. Now he’s a terrific 7 year-old.
I’m still sending prayers your way and hope it never happens again. The photo is adorable and baby laughs are the best! I think it’s the happiest sound, especially that silly, almost uncontrollable laugh. Ahhh… love it! Enjoy!! 🙂
I’m so relieved to know he is healthy. I can’t even begin to imagine how it must feel to listen to your baby laugh for the first time 🙂
I’m so happy to hear he’s doing well. He is adorable. I love hearing babies laugh.
Gage looks so happy in the photo. I’m happy he’s back to normal now. 😀
