Favorite Actress – Audrey Hepburn

My first Audrey Hepburn movie was also the one I’ve watched countless times, Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). As Holly Golightly she was perfection, luminous, vulnerable, and strong. If I add compassionate to those I think it would perfectly sum up the real Audrey.

She was born in Brussels in 1929 and spent her childhood in Belgium, the UK, and Netherlands. Her horrific experiences living in a German occupied city during WWII took their toll on her health, both physical and mental. She studied to become a ballerina, but ended up onstage in plays before Hollywood found her for her breakout role, Roman Holiday (1953). The births of her two sons led her to slow down. She became very active with UNICEF, a tradition her granddaughter continues to this day.

I haven’t seen all of her movies, but there are a few that I’ve watched so many times it’s embarrassing. She had her pick of Hollywood’s leading men!

She won Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Awards. Do you have a favorite Audrey movie?
