March Wrap Up and a Free Book (Zagat America’s Top Restaurants 2012)

First and foremost – I didn’t win the lottery 😦  I bought my first lottery ticket ever and had a really good feeling about it, LOL.  But I’m not too upset about it because OHIO STATE IS IN THE FINAL FOUR!  For those of you not keeping track, the game is tonight at 8:45 so break out your Go Bucks cheer.  If Ohio State beats Kansas I will lose my yearly bet with Jason.  If Ohio State loses then my consolation will be that I still have a chance to win.  Oh, the irony.

My husband received a book for the holidays and I’m passing it on to one of you because as the parents of a 1 1/2  year old we are not eating out at fancy places and we are not traveling.  If you would like the brand new copy of Zagat’s America’s Top Restaurants 2012 just leave a comment with your email address on this post and I’ll draw a name at the end of the month.

So, I only read 5 books and am feeling like I’m in a bit of a reading slump right now. They never seem to last long which is a good thing since this is a bookish blog!  I’ve also been in a slump as far as accomplishing my goals.  I’ll post them only because I want to keep track, but if I were you I’d just skip right over the rest of this paragraph!  Daily goals 10,000 steps (19/31), 8 glasses of water (6/31), daily meditations (27/31), a note to Jason (8/22), One line mom diary (31/31). Weekly goals vegetarian (6/8), letter (2/4).  I didn’t keep track of my cardio this month.

So, my goal for the month is to get back on track!  And I’m adding 2 things – read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and to give up drive-thrus for the month. I’ve always eaten fast food but since I’ve been a mother I drive thru somewhere at least once a day.  This is often the 5 minutes that I have to eat in relative peace and I need to break the habit.  I believe this and lack of sleep are the two biggest things keeping me from losing the baby weight.  I need to tape before and after photos on my dash for motivation.

The other thing on my radar this month is World Book Night on April 23.  I’ll be passing out 20 copies of The Glass Castle.

Now I don’t know whether to vote for the Buckeyes or not. We have Kentucky, Ohio State and Kansas fans in our neighborhood – maybe I should root for Louisville just to be contrary. I think you’re doing well with your goals! I’m giving out The Poisonwood Bible on World Book Night.

I totally understand about the drive – thru Restaurants! I have a ( bad ) habit of those myself!

I think you are doing a good job with your reading goals! The book that you are giving away sounds interesting!
I like reading about different Restaurants.
    thanks for the giveaway!

Hi There, I too am watching the game…I am also doing world book night…I am very excited about it…I am giving away A Prayer for Owen Meany…Love that book!

As for Goals…I have lost much weight, but I lave much to lose…I have to get my butt off of the couch. I admit to not moving at all…I tell my Dr. that the last time I walked the dog I became deathly ill and was out of work for a month…I am sure it was all his fault!

I heard about the lotto on our news that would have been awesome to win!

The drive thru habit is a hard one to break or take away in general. Maybe switch to healthier options if you do it (like a banana smoothie) and eat in the park. Or if you want the 5 mins or so make a sandwhich/healthy snack and take it with you. I know easier said then done but I am also on a health kick currently eating better and exercising. Feel better but it is a constant struggle to stay on the wagon.

I’m totally experiencing a reading slump too. It’s not that I’m reading bad books, it’s just that I always seem to find something I’d rather do than read! Very unlike me! But I’m sure it will pass. I do try to stay away from fast food as much as possible, but sometimes it’s just so convenient! And when you are busy those drive-thrus are so darn easy. Good luck with your goals!

Sorry OSU lost. We don’t follow basketball, but they would have been pick out of the last 4.

We try to avoid fast food, too, but sometimes it’s easier said than done.

At one time I really was obsessed with my weight but as I’ve gotten older I just want to be healthy. One step at a time. Get yourself through his early years and you’ll be surprised at how the weight will come off, especially now that he’s mobile!!! I’m not doing very well with my challenges either but hey, that’s life too! Right? I’m trying to ease up on the guilt trips that I lay on myself!! Enjoy your time with him and now that the weather is getting nicer it will be easier to get outside and be more active!!

I read Fast Food Nation and saw that movie Super Size Me and that got me off of eating junk food for good!
