I received three books in the mail the past few weeks.

That Night by Chevy Stevens  (from St. Martin’s Press)

As a teenager, Toni Murphy had a life full of typical adolescent complications: a boyfriend she adored, a younger sister she couldn’t relate to, a strained relationship with her parents, and classmates who seemed hell-bent on making her life miserable. Things weren’t easy, but Toni could never have predicted how horrific they would become until her younger sister was brutally murdered one summer night.

Toni and her boyfriend, Ryan, were convicted of the murder and sent to prison.

The Blonde by Anna Godbersen (a win from Tara at Tales of a Book Addict)

Part biography, part spy thriller, and part love story, THE BLONDE is a whip-smart re-imagining of the relationship between Marilyn Monroe and John F. Kennedy that draws on historical events to create a dark tale of American celebrity, sex, love, violence, power, and paranoia.

Collision:The Battle for Darracia by Michael Phillip Cash (from the author)

The Darracia saga continues with all the key players spread out and searching for answers throughout the solar system. Prince V’sair struggles to hold his fractured kingdom together without help from his family. His stepbrother Zayden is on a vengeful hunt for his evil uncle Staf Nuen. Tulani navigates her two worlds trying to bring them together. Staf Nuen, the orchestrator of the original coup, is making unholy alliances with nefarious new allies. Like the comet zipping across the horizon, all the different factions are heading for a collision course that will test both their faith and power.

And I went to a huge book sale at Case Western Reserve University yesterday.  There were over 75,000 books and I showed enough restraint to only come home with these…

It’s been over a month since I participated so I have a few things (and probably more than a few that I forgot already).  Before Easter, this wonderful surprise arrived from Cheryl & Co.  I definitely like to receive free books, but maybe yummy cookies just as much 🙂  Thank you to the authors who sent the cute cookie.

I pre-ordered the new Christopher Moore book so that I could get the special signed edition.  It’s a beautiful book.

IMG_6364The Serpent of Venice

I picked up these at local bookstores from the clearance shelves, all for a dollar or two.

IMG_5755Only one book this week, but a good one!   This was a win from Luxury Reading.

Under the Wide and Starry Sky by Nancy Horan

At the age of thirty-five, Fanny van de Grift Osbourne leaves her philandering husband in San Francisco and sets sail for Belgium to study art, with her three children and a nanny in tow. Not long after her arrival, however, tragedy strikes, and Fanny and her brood repair to a quiet artists’ colony in France where she can recuperate. There she meets Robert Louis Stevenson, ten years her junior, who is instantly smitten with the earthy, independent and opinionated belle Americaine.

The Catch by Taylor Stevens came my way from Taylor herself.  I appreciate her sending it to me and assured her I would be caught up with the series by the time this one came out.  Isn’t the packaging great?  Thanks, Taylor!

In the wake of going head-to-head with international sex traffickers in The Doll, Munroe has retreated to Djibouti, where, while passing as a man, she finds work as an interpreter for a small, private, maritime security company. Pressed into duty at sea by her boss, Leo, Munroe discovers she is part of a gunrunning operation and she wants no part in protecting the crew or cargo. When the ship is attacked by pirates off the Somali coast, Munroe escapes and takes the unconscious captain with her to get answers. Leo’s wife, Amber Marie, the only person Munroe has cared about since she arrived in Africa, is desperate when Leo goes missing along with the rest of the hijacked crew, so Munroe agrees to try to find him for Amber Marie’s sake.

Vengeance Follows by Scott Lax came from Jane at Gray & Company.  The author lives in the neighboring town so I had to accept when offered.  Plus, I get to go to Paris 🙂 Thanks Jane!

A young man loses the true love of his life and seeks vengeance from the man he holds responsible for his wife’s death. Told with elegant simplicity, this novel of literary suspense is a tragic story of love and loss that ultimately reveals the cruelty of human nature and the healing power of forgiveness.

Sam and Sophie’s idyllic life of Parisian cafes, fine wine, and romantic passion is torn apart when Sophie is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. Then Sophie reveals something that happened years before they met–a horrific event that changed her life and left her wounded in ways no one knew. She’s found peace in the years since, she swears to Sam. But then she’s gone, and Sam finds only pain.

Bereft and alone, he leaves the City of Light and seeks solace in a small French village where no one knows him or his past. Troubled in heart and mind, he knows one man is responsible for Sophie’s death. Sam cannot live without confronting him and holding him accountable for his past crimes.

Men and Dogs by Katie Crouch I picked this up at the local indie for $1.  Not a bad deal, right?

When Hannah Legare was eleven, her father went on a fishing trip in Charleston Harbor and never came back. And while most of the town and her family accepted Buzz’s disappearance, Hannah remained steadfastly convinced of his imminent return.

More than twenty years later, Hannah’s new life in San Francisco is unraveling. Her marriage is on the rocks; her business is bankrupt. After a disastrous attempt to win back her husband, she is shipped to her mother’s home to “rest up,” and she is once again sucked into the mystery of her missing father. Suspecting that those closest to her are keeping secrets — including Palmer, her emotionally closed, well-mannered brother, and Warren, the beautiful boyfriend she left behind — Hannah sets out on an uproarious, dangerous quest that will test the whole family’s concept of loyalty and faith.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikrey by Gabrielle Zevin (from the publisher)

A.   J.  Fikry’s life is not at all what he expected it to be. His wife has died; his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history; and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. Slowly but surely, he is isolating himself from all the people of Alice Island—from Chief Lambiase, the well-intentioned police officer who’s always felt kindly toward him; from Ismay, his sister-in-law, who is hell-bent on saving A.J. from his dreary self; from Amelia, the lovely and idealistic (if eccentric) Knightley Press sales rep who persists in taking the ferry to Alice Island, refusing to be deterred by A.J.’s bad attitude. Even the books in his store have stopped holding pleasure for him. These days, he can only see them as a sign of a world that is changing too rapidly.

The Line by J.D. Horn (from a Goodreads win!)

Move over, Sookie Stackhouse—the witches of Savannah are the new talk of the South. Bold, flirty, and with a touch of darkness, debut author J.D. Horn spins a mesmerizing tale of a family of witches . . . and the problem that can arise from being so powerful. As Charlaine Harris’ series winds down—and as Deborah Harkness’ series heats up—Witching Savannah is new contemporary fantasy that will be sure to enchant new readers.

A few kid’s books arrived from Red Feather Productions, all by the author Carole P Roman.  (The Treasure of Snake Island, Whaley’s Big Adventure, If You Were Me and Lived in…India) Thank you!  I’m planning a week long activity fest with Gage using all of the country books we’ve collected so far!

On Saturday after a lovely dinner Jason and I walked to the local indie bookstore and I bought a few things. I got the two books for $1 each (Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris, One True Thing by Anna Quindlen) and I paid whatever they asked for the beautiful box of 100 Jane Austen postcards. The box is very nice and I shared a few of the postcards so that you can see how cool they are!  If you are an Austen fan and want one mailed  your way, let me know 🙂

I received 3 things things in the mail this week.  Two books and a canvas bag.

IMG_5333If You Were Me and Lived in Turkey by Carole P Roman is part of a children’s book series that I’ve posted about before and I’m looking forward to sharing it with Gage.  Schism by Michael Phillip Cash doesn’t look like something I would read at all, but I will give it a few chapters at least. Both of these were surprises from Red Feather Productions.

IMG_5336This Agatha Christie canvas bag was a win from Dewey’s 24 hour read-a-thon last October sent from Harper Collins, thank you Angela!  Can you believe the size of the box and amount of packaging used to send me a flat bag?  I love the bag, but hate the waste.

For years I’ve loved seeing what books all of you received each week, but I’ve never joined in.  I don’t really receive a lot of books, so I don’t know how often I’ll jump in, but when I have something to share, I will.

This week I have three books by three authors I love so I am a very happy reader this week.  Maybe I want to share because I am so excited about all three of these books 🙂

mm

Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen– I’ve read all her others and purchased this brand new hardcover with my own money.

The Last Camellia by Sarah Jio and The Splendor Falls by Susanna Kearsley were both surprises sent to me by Nise.  I had to include her stationary in the picture because I love beautiful cards.  Thank you Nise!!

So, what did your mailbox bring?
