Sundays with Gage – Retirement means more Grandma

So, how do you make sure a woman will LOVE her surprise retirement party and not just wish everyone would get out of her house?  Make sure she sees her only grandson first thing.

My mom officially retired before Christmas but with it being a busy time of year we decided to wait until this weekend to surprise her (and my dad) with a party at their house.  A fun time was had by all, even if the retiree everyone was there to congratulate was over an hour late due to a very busy restaurant.  My aunt and uncle were anxiously watching my dad eat steak while we were all munching away back at the house.

So, what does this retirement mean for Gage?  Way more time with Grandma.  She still lives over 2 hours away, but the visits will be more frequent.  Win for Gage, win for Grandma, and a win for Mom.

Who wouldn’t wanna retire, with Gage-time to look forward to? My parents’ dream retirement is to spend half the year traveling the country spending quality time with their various granchildren.

I am jealous. Retirement sounds wonderful. Congratulations to both your mom and Gage.
First thing one of our grandsons uttered when he came through the door after their 6 hour drive from Chicago last Christmas: Nana, when are you retiring?

  3. Gage's Grandma says:

The party was a total surprise! I have the most wonderful and thoughtful daughter and son-in-law ever. I was amazed when I saw how many cars there were and when I spotted the one from Cuyahoga County I hurried in to find Gage. He is always the life of the party and he did not disappoint this time. He was pretty tired at the end of the evening, but his smile lights up the room and Grandma and Grandpa’s hearts. Retirement = more Gage time and more family time in general. I don’t think I’ve driven my wonderful husband crazy yet either. Loving it so far! I am blessed!

Awww. your mom is going to love retirement with such a good reason to visit frequently! Congratulations to her! Gage will love having his grandma at his beck and call! He’s getting so BIG!

Congrats to your mom! And i’m sure you’re looking forward to the extra set of hands. My mom is still too far from retirement but I look forward to the day! Especially if I stay home after the next baby.
