Caught, by Harlan Coben

Caught by Harlan Coben: Book CoverFinished 4-2-10, rating 4.5/5, fiction, pub. 2010

I knew opening that read door would destroy my life.

First line of book

Dan Mercer is a social worker who spends his time helping neighborhood kids.  One day, just like any other, he walks into a house to aid a teen and is stunned by the cameras and Wendy Tynes’s accusation of pedophilia.  He escapes, but his life is shattered.  When Wendy finds him after his court case is thrown out because of her, she is shocked to find that she believes he’s innocent.  This is just where the craziness begins.  There is also a missing teenaged girl who leaves a grieving family and community behind.  When these two cases seem to connect things become only more confusing.

Wendy was a character easy to dislike at first, but she also grew on me until I was completely rooting for her to find out the truth.  Not just for herself, but for me too 🙂

Harlan Coben has done it again.  I’ve read all of his books and this is up there with his best.  I know when I start reading I’m not going to want to stop til I’m done and this was no exception, I finished it in a day.  He’s a master at twists and turns and even when you get to the end there always seems to be something there to surprise you.

I also find that he is very timely.  As a book blogger I can appreciate the importance that blogging and social media played in this book.  It will make you think twice about things you might read online.  And the role parents play in their kids lives.  This is definitely one that you shouldn’t miss.

This is a great thriller that I paid for with my very own money.

that sounds like an interesting read. i absolutely hate that innocent people can be accused of horrible things and can never actually be cleared without people wondering. ugh.

I was in Borders yesterday and it was between this and the 13th Hour for a hardcover, I decided on Caught to download on Kindle. This would be my 1st Coben book to read, I look forward to it.

    Great review

Sounds excellent! I love Harlan Coben’s stand alone and I’m going to check if this ones been released in the UK yet. I havn’t seen it in the shops, so maybe not.

But what we did see a few weeks ago was the French film version of Tell Noone. Excellent!

This was just released here last Tuesday. Loved Tell No One, the book and the movie. Did you see Harlan’s cameo in the film? Very Hitchcock like.

Start with Tell No One. It was the first one I read. And it was made into an award winning French film that was very good too.

I just totally want to read this one. Sounds like a great read. And because of its plot, I am interested in it. AND I have not read this author at all.

This must be really good. I’ve always seen his books in the bookstores, almost bought some in many instances, but somehow decided to wait. I think I’ll give this one a shot should I decide to start reading Coben.

OOOH, I’m waiting for my dad to pick this one up. He always gets Mr. Coben’s books for us. I have to say that I was tempted to buy it at Target on Friday but my cart was already costing me a ton of money. 🙂 Can’t wait to dive in.

You’re in for a treat. He’s on tour right now you should see if he’s in your area. I went to a signing of his a few years ago and he is a so genuine and fun.

I LOVE Coben’s books!! He does have the best twists and his books are never boring. My mom just had this from the library and thought it was great too. I really look forward to it!

I’m so jealous that you got to meet him at a book signing. How cool! I was in an online book club at Barnes & Noble for The Woods (I think) and he joined us too. I was starstruck then!

Awesome review! Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
