This Week – Breathe

Fave pic JHEH5565 Taken from our driveway Memorial Day evening.

Highlights of the week We had my parents over for Memorial Day.  The guys even got in a convertible ride before the rain came.

I’m the current president of our local library Friends group and curbside pickup starts Monday.  That means I started tentatively planning and working on things this week.  Exciting.

I received all of Gage’s end of year and summer stuff on Wednesday, but I’m keeping him in ‘school’.  I spent 30 minutes the last three nights planning a schedule and lesson plans for each day.  Sound mean?  I couldn’t take one more day of hearing “Mom, what can I do now?” “Mom can I have screen time?” “Mom,  mom, mom…”  So he has mom school until the early afternoon.  To entice him he has a list of everything we’re doing that day and a list of required chores.  Once everything is crossed off he gets $1.  I’m considering it a $5 a week allowance 🙂  I’m actually having a good time planning fun things to go along with the hard stuff.  Today he tried oragami for the first time and is so proud of his little fox.

New recipe a day challenge

Plans for the weekend  Our friend had a pass to Cruise through the Zoo that she couldn’t use so we’re taking Gage tomorrow.  The zoo is still closed and we’ll have to stay in our car, but I’m more excited about it than I should be 🙂  It takes so little to entertain these days.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the state of what’s going on in this country right now.  I plan to devote some meditation time this weekend to try and figure out how best to use my voice and my resources.

What’s up in your neck of the woods?

Not mean. Sounds like he’s a kid who does better with some structure and guidance. Is he an only child? It’s hard to come up with your own one-man activities. LOL And sounds like you’re giving him a balance of school work and fun stuff.

Lovely picture! And, no, you’re not being mean. You’re giving him goals and pursuits and he also learns about money and how it is to earn it. Have fun at the zoo!

When my boys were young, one of the things we would do in the summer was that they and I would write a daily journal post and illustrate it. It is fun to look back on those summer journals now.

The zoo. I miss the zoo. Enjoy and take photos, please.

I feel completely lost when I think about the state of our world. I am praying for guidance in the ways I can take action. I want to do something.

OMG! We had a similar (if not the same) rainbow her in Miami Beach!! In fact, I posted it also on my Sunday post! Yes, the state of the world is very upsetting right now.. it is a challenging time.

Taronga Zoo in Sydney reopens today, it requires advance tickets to keep numbers down but it’s another step towards normalcy that has people excited.
Plans are essential to get through the holidays with kids! Just remember to look for education ideas that incorporate play, like building a neighborhood for toy cars out of blocks, or paper and boxes, or making homemade play dough and using it to make models of animals.

Wishing you a great reading week

I think keeping your kiddo in “school” is a great idea. Research shows that kids lose quite a bit over the summer so maybe he can actually make gains instead. The allowance idea sounds like it should work until it doesn’t anymore. Start planning for a saving/spending plan. My Sunday Salon post

    That’s a beautiful picture!!

I enrolled my daughter in virtual camp that starts this week. Hopefully it’s fun. But beyond that, I still need to make plans for the week. Thankfully she’s spending a ton of time outside nowadays but the afternoons are time for activities/fun. We’ll see what we can plan for this week.

Beautiful rainbow! Bosch is a great show … we finished Season 6 not long ago. Very addictive. Breathe is a good symbolic word right now for what’s going on.
