Feature Presentation…MONDAY MOVIE MEME
Time for a little “Girl Power!” There are leading ladies, love interests, eye candy and comediennes – but my favorite roles for actresses are those who take charge and get things done. I’m talking Heroines. Here are our choices for ladies we’d want on our side. Share on your blog women characters from film who know how to save the day, linking back at The Bumbles.
Here are few of my favorite take charge movie heroines
1.
I’ll take Ripley from Alien (1979) in a scrape. Any scrape. This woman is tough and smart. A deadly combination.

Clarice Starling from Silence of the Lambs (1991) is another tough cookie who relies on her smarts to catch the bad guy, but knows her way around guns too.

Yu Shu Lien from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) is a woman I would like to be friends with and have with me in a fight.

Vianne from Chocolat (2000) uses a more subtle way to bring about change and she does it without changing herself. This is more how I operate 😉 Oh, and she ends up with Johnny Depp.

Chris from Adventures in Babysitting (1987) is my sentimental choice and I always have to include at least one 80’s movie. I did a little babysitting back in the day and always hoped for a little excitement, but I’m pretty sure I would not have fared as well as Chris did!

I saw most of Alien – the rest I watch through my fingers. I didn’t even attempt to watch The Silence of the Lambs because I knew I couldn’t handle it.
Then the last 2 should be right up your alley. No blood or violence 🙂
You picked one of my favorites – Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragons. You always remind me of a movie I should see again.
It was visually stunning.
good movie thank you
Adventures in Babysitting is a good classic to remember! That was hillarious! I agree about strong women though. A couple that come to mind for me are Changeling and Iron Jawed Angels (this one is about Alice Paul and I think all women should watch it!).
I’ve never heard of Iron Jawed Angels. I’ll have to look for it.
Yay for Ripley! Along with Sarah Connor, Ripley stays in my memory as a butt-kicking woman.
I forgot about Sarah Connor, probably because I’ve only seen one ofthe Terminator movies.
Adventures in Babysitting – what a little gem of a movie! That takes me back.
I wondered if anyone would remember it 😉
Such great characters all of them!!! 😀
I really like your choices!
LOL Kathy, It took me a few times before I could watch Silence without my hands on my face. Now it is a favorite movie.
It is creepy, right?
Wow – I LOVE your choice of Adventures In Babysitting! I always look forward to your 80’s inclusions – such memory lane strolls ;0)
I try to represent the 80’s 😉
I really need to watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I love Adventures in Babysitting!
I hope you like it. It is different from any other movie you’ve seen and the women kick butt!
Yu Shu Lien is cool. I have to think about this too 🙂
Loved her!
I can’t believe I didn’t think of Vianne! One of my favorite characters and movies! Great list, Stacy!
I need to see Chocolat again. Such a charming movie.
