This week’s movie topic is all about Highs & Lows…I’m sure you have a favorite actor/actress. Someone whose work you admire enough to overlook, or even forget completely, those performances where they weren’t quite on their game. Or perhaps there is someone whose portrayals are usually forgettable, but they have surprised you with a gem here or there.
I had a hard time deciding on which actors to choose, so I glanced over the list of recent Golden Globe winners and decided to go with that.
Sandra Bullock – Love her and will watch everything she’s in, but they can’t all be good, right?
The Good-The Proposal, The Blind Side, While You Were Sleeping
The Bad- Premonition, Forces of Nature
Robert Downey Jr. – I always find hin compelling and I’m not sure why.
The Good- The Soloist, Tropic Thunder, Wonder Boys
The Bad- Air America, Johnny Be Good
The Ugly- The Pick-Up Artist
Drew Barrymore– I find her charming.
The Good- Ever After, Wedding Singer, ET
The Bad- Mad Love, Batman Forever
The Ugly- Poison Ivy
Kevin Bacon– He’s always solid and I can count on a good performance.
The Good- Murder in the First, Apollo 13, A Few Good Men
The Bad- Hollow Man
The Ugly- Loverboy

Ooooh… I love Sandra Bullock in THE PROPOSAL. I did a coverage on a marriage proposal event in relation to the movie. 🙂
Loves me some Sandy! One of my faves that rarely gets mentioned is Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood. I love it when she bangs the phone on the table. Haven’t seen The Proposal or Blind Side yet.
Great list…I love Kevin Bacon. I think he’s a very under-rated actor.
Haha, Air America! Dude, I haven’t thought of that movie in for-ever!!
You have similar tastes in actors/actresses as I do. Hmmm…except Kevin Bacon. There’s just something about him that bugs me. Oh well, such is life.
Fun list! I wonder how many stars pick scripts they think are good, but then because of directing or editing or whatever they wind up being “ugly.”
Stacy: To let you know Randomizer chose you as the winner of The Last Surgeon in the book give away on my blog. I sent you an email.
Also there is another book giveaway for Simply Quince, if you are interested in entering!
There’s a few in there that I can’t remember, but I’ll watch anything with these actors in it.
I always loved Robert Downey Jr. in Less Than Zero. But his career, like his personal life, has been quite up and down. I enjoyed his Golden Globe speech this year – very humble and funny.
Robert’s career’s been so up and down with his drug problems and such, but another solid was Heart and Soul.
Sandra Bullock was great in Love Potion #9 and The Net. I also hated Premonition…boring, confusing and way too many plot holes.
Kevin Bacon…Footloose! that was the best! filmed right where I live now!

I really like your list. I wish you could see Robert Downey in Sherlock Holmes. I’d be interested in seeing where you rand that one.
I did see Sherlock Holmes and I really liked him in the role. But I thought he was awesome in Tropic Thunder & The Soloist.
What a neat idea. I love Robert Downey Jr. .. I think he has been on a roll lately.
Okay, you’re invited to my house for movie night. Love Sandra Bullock. I imagine now she won’t be doing many romantic comedies. She said she wanted to do more serious roles.
No more romantic comedies?! Say it ain’t so!
I’d say Gwyneth Paltrow.
The good: Hard 8 (aka Sydney), Emma, Sliding Doors, Proof, Shakepeare in Love, Sylvia
The bad: The Pallbearer, Great Expectations, Talented Mr. Ripley (movie great, Gwynnie bad)
The ugly: Shallow Hal (why?!),
I’m not a big Paltrow fan, but I did enjoy Sliding Doors. And I didn’t even hate Shallow Hal (even though I wanted too!) I do want to see Sylvia.
Love Sandra. “while you were sleeping” is one of my favorites.
