Highlights of the week Gage went to the dentist and found out his last seven baby teeth are all loose and he lost one this week! The highlight of the week was making the decision to homeschool Gage this year. There are so many reasons for this, but, in truth, I’ve always wanted to try it and thought at one point or another we’d give it a go. I’m excited and a bit terrified. I’ve spent most of the week reading with so much more to be done. The hardest thing was notifying Gage’s school, one that’s been our family’s safety net for the last four years, and then reading the sweet messages from the other moms of the class when I told them. As I research, I’m trying to be as open as possible to all of the different theories and ways to homeschool. I notify our school district tomorrow with all of the proper paperwork (and my curriculum, yikes!) and then it becomes real. I’m finally going to put my education degree to the use for which it was intended!

On the TV We finished season 6 of Bosch and started the Netflix miniseries The Woods based on the Harlan Coben book.
Movies watched Last night was our second monthly movie night. We switched it up and everyone got to choose movies. I made it through these three (the guys made it through one more and came to bed at 3 am!).
Plans for the weekend Nothing but completing my curriculum today. We’ve been invited to a few pools this last week and have decided to stay home for another week or so. I’m feeling okay about that decision since one of the kids who also plays at one of the houses tested positive for covid this week. Stay healthy friends.

Honestly, I’ve wanted to homeschool as well and may end up doing it if I’m not able to keep up with the school’s (virtual synchronous) schedules. With another little kid in the house and both of us working, I’m not sure virtual school is right (which is the option we are choosing for now). But we’ll see. Will you share your homeschool journey and curriculum on the blog?

There’s no perfect decision for sure. I’m just happy that making the decision part is over. For us, homeschooling works. With two working parents, the choice is a different one. Online school will work for you, for us there are other considerations that I’ll probably talk about later. I’m sure you’ll be hearing more that you want to about homeschooling in the coming months 🙂 This year is going to be an interesting one for everyone.
Homeschooling should be a fun adventure for all of you. I enjoyed my time in the classroom so much, and it would be wonderful to create your own curriculum around the interests of you and your son and your husband. Need a little more time to learn something? Come back to it later in the day. Tired and need a break? Go outside and run around a while. Talk about individualizing learning! You will do a great job. I’m really looking forward to homeschooling. As I work on my curriculum to send to the school district I get more excited about trying something new. Whether it’s something that works long term, we’ll see. The fact that my husband is working from home made the decision easier, knowing I can run an errand and give Gage some work to do and he’ll be fine put my mind at ease.
Evvie Drake was a fun summer read.
Stacy, I think you guys will do fine with homeschooling. We did it for a couple of years with our daughter – her 7th and 8th grade year. It went very well and she was ahead in some areas when she went back to regular school – math especially. Anyway, it also gave her the opportunity to do volunteer work, which I made part of her curriculum. The first year, she volunteered at the local library in the children’s area. The second year, she wanted to try being a ‘candy-striper’ in the hospital. And that choice set her on her life path. She became convinced that year that she wanted to be a nurse and a nurse she is – 15 years out of college now. You just never know. Good luck and you guys take care!
My first year of teaching was the hardest because everything was new to me, I had to create everything and I didn’t know what to expect. After that it got easier and easier. I’m sure this will be a very busy but very rewarding year for you! Good luck..

I’ll bet it’s a relief to just know what you are going to do with regard to Gage’s education. So many parents are still wondering what will happen with their kids in the next month and I think that uncertainty adds to everyone’s stress. Having made the decision must be both exciting and a little scary, but I’ll bet you won’t have any regrets. Good decision to stay away from the pool, too. I’m seeing so many pictures of people gathering with friends and not practicing social distancing (if anything, there are far too many hugs and arms around one another) and I have to admit it makes me pretty angry. I don’t see how we’ll ever get this thing under control if people don’t take it seriously. Stepping off my soap box…

My granddaughter wants to go to school because it will be starting her senior year. My grandson doesn’t want to go back so he’s going to do online classes.
