This Week – A few new challenges

This is the only fun picture I took all week.  As Gage and I were walking back home from the bus stop we found the only snow left on a 40 degree day.  A gross mound of snow and who knows what.  But at least the kid is cute!

Highlight of the Week  Well, the highlight was supposed to be seeing author Marie Benedict, but I got the times wrong and we arrived at the library 20 minutes late.  The door to the library was closed so we couldn’t even sneak in 😦  I refuse to choose another highlight because I’m still bitter.  At least I got to eat at The Cheesecake Factory first, I guess.

New Challenges

I don’t remember how I first found the 1000 Hours Outside blog, but when I did at the end of the year I knew this would be the perfect challenge for Gage.  He was excited about it after I printed out the tracker sheets, but wanted me to do it with him (because I’m not challenging myself enough already, sigh).  So we both have our tracker sheets on the refrigerator and he’s currently beating me by a few hours.  I love this challenge and recommend it for anyone with children.

And although I’m late to the game I’m joining Shelleyrae’s2020 Non-Fiction Challenge at Book’d Out.  I’m signing up for the Non-Fiction Nibbler where I’ll be reading 6 non-fiction titles chosen from 12 categories.  Fun!  It’s not too late to join in.

Ongoing 30 day challenge.

Plans for the Weekend  We were so on the fence about taking a quick trip this weekend, but we decided to stay home and have friends over tonight.  Then we’re taking Gage tobogganing on Monday.  We’ll have to see what Sunday brings 🙂

I hooked up with the Sunday Salon this week.

Gage sure is cute but that snow is not. I’m hoping for a snowless winter this year.

I love Gage’s enthusiasm for challenges – I think it will serve him well in life.

Too bad about the author event. 😦

    Have fun with the puzzle.

Quite a few years ago, we went to LA to see Wicked. Our friends’ son got the tickets. He didn’t read the time, and we got there just in time to see the last song of the 1st act! Needless to say that was not a comfortable day and night.

I never really thought about what gets in snow after a few days, a few weeks. It’s not a pleasant thought, is it? I’ve seen snow about a half dozen times in my 63 years of living on the Texas Gulf Coast. It is always brilliant and white and beautiful and then it melts away. I guess snow that has been on the ground for a month isn’t quite so photogenic.

They wouldn’t even let you in? At the library? Goodness, that doesn’t seem very nice. Well, we won’t think about it again.

I am happy to find that Our Better Angels is at my library. I couldn’t find Morning Meditations (but then again it is early yet) but I did add it to my wishlist at Amazon. Both of those sound perfect for my personal mood-boosting books challenge.

    Have a lovely week, Stacy!

I am loving Our Better Angels. I read only one story every morning, so I don’t know how it would read all at one time.
Well, the library closed at 5:30 and I thought the author event was at 7:30 but it was actually 7, so when we arrived at the library doors at 7:20 we could see the event happening way inside, but the outside doors were locked 😦 I don’t blame them, it was my fault for not double checking the time. Still disappointing because we made the trip.

  5. Bryan G. Robinson says:

That seems odd that they’d lock the door. Was it a closed event? Just wondering since I work at a library and it seems odd….seeing response to Deb now as I post this. Still seems odd to me, especially if you’re right at the door and can see them. I’m guessing a small library. It seems like one of the staff could have come and let you in. I know I would have. 🙂

When we started walking across the parking lot we could see someone standing inside the door but by the time we got there she was gone. I didn’t want to bang on the door and interrupt the author. It’s all good now. I’ll be checking the times next event!

Aww, too bad about the author event. I know I would be so frustrated with myself if that happened to me. Ugh! Hope you get another chance sometime soon!

I’ve bookmarked the 1000 Hours Outside challenge – I’d like to do it in a few years when my daughter understands the concept of time better. Hopefully that’s soon enough. Good luck with the challenges you are in!

  7. Mary says:

Sorry you missed the author event. I’d have been disappointed as well. I thought Our Better Angels was good. A nice surprise in my mailbox last month.

  8. Literary Feline says:

That’s too bad about the author event. I wish they would have still let people in. 😦 Good luck with your reading challenges, Stacy. I am doing the nonfiction one too, but the 3 books, not the six.

  9. hmsgofita says:

Love me some good cheesecake. But what a bummer about missing the author! So sorry. Love your puzzle! Good luck with your challenges. I need to make it outside more but I fear if I turn it into a challenge it’ll make me hate the outdoors, especially in winter, even more!
