Sundays with Gage – Freedom

This weekend we celebrate our Independence from England.  As a new mom I don’t have a lot of independence these days.  Here are a few of the freedoms that have come and gone in the last 8 months.

The ability to have long hair and wear it down. Those little hands can still reach around and grab a fistful, but I try to make it as challenging as possible.

Indulging in a long, hot shower without company waiting on the other side of the shower curtain.

Wearing lotion. (This freedom has just come back!  Yea for everything else being more tasty than mom :))

Wearing earrings or necklaces.

Being able to go to the movies without having to plan around a grandparent visit.

Eating out with friends, stress-free.

Making plans knowing that they could all be ruined by a nap out of your control.

An 8 hour night of sleep (even if he’s doing it, that doesn’t mean you are)

And the last, but at the beginning the most surprising, is the ability to go to the bathroom without pre-planning.

Here’s another new mother.  This family arrived on our deck this week.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend here in the States.

Your list reminded me of those days long gone….you’ll look back on them one day with fondness when Gage is a teen and “thinks” he doesn’t need you anymore!! 😀

    Happy 4th of July!!

I chuckled over your list. At least you are taking it with a sense of humor. I love the picture. Gage is just so cute with that wheel in his mouth.

Awww, what a sweetie! He’s so worth having your freedoms curbed for a while! (And I know you know that. 🙂 )

He must be cutting teeth…look at that drool-y shirt! 🙂

Yup agree with all. Except the hair, I have yet to cut mine mostly because short hair doesnt suit me (been there done that years ago). However little monkey is doing his best to pull my hair out by the chunk-full. No matter if it is up or down grr.

    Gage is looking gorgeous!

I still have my long hair too, but he does still get chunkfuls out. I’m not worried about going gray (I color my haor anyway) but I’m worried about going bald!

All so true, and as all moms know, all so worth it! What a cute picture! (Ok, the mama bird too!) Gage is sitting up like such a big boy. Happy July 4th.

Oh, my goodness, how you’ve brought back memories. I miss my son when he was a toddler, baby, younger than now, but reading this post makes me really glad he’s 16!

The little man is growing so fast!! What a cutie pie! I sympathize with you and remember those days well. The good outweighs the bad but you definitely have to have a sense of humor and a shoulder to cry on once in awhile. Other moms have always been my lifeline. Right now we are supporting each other through graduation!

I went through the exact same things you mentioned when my kids were little and your post made me think of a few more things:
    – Never going anywhere unprepared. We always had a diaper bag (sometimes the big one sometimes the small one for quick trips) filled with diapers, wipes, pacifiers, cheerios or crackers, toys, books and an extra outfit or two.
    – Never being without a car seat and a stroller. As great as all that baby paraphernalia is when you need it, it’s so wonderful when you don’t need it anymore!
    – Staying ahead of your tyke in the baby proofing department. As soon as my kids became mobile items were moved higher. When they went from crawling to walking they were moved even higher. When they could climb like monkeys all bets were off and nothing was safe.
    – Not realizing that you could ever love someone as fiercely as you do that little bundle. There were plenty of times I didn’t like my kids but I always have, and always will, love them more than anything in the world. 🙂

I love these that you’ve added! That last one is so true. The first 6 months were so rough but these last few have been so nice because I actually have time to appreciate him.

    Gage is so adorable.

We just got back from vacation with my brother, his wife and their 6-month old. It had been awhile since I’ve been around a baby for any length of time and it made my husband and I remember what Amber was like at that age.

He is so sweet!! Can I borrow him for a year?!!!!!!

My nephews and nieces loved my necklace and earrings (gold!!). And now that they are all grown up, they are the MAJOR beneficiaries.

Sorry, a year is too long 🙂 If we come to India maybe you can borrow him for the week we’re there 🙂
