My goal for starting this blog in January was to keep a running tally of the books I read for the year with a review. Every year it is my intention to read a book a week, but I never quite make it and I thought the blog would keep me honest. I decided to count my books so far for the year and I’ve already read 59! I can’t believe it. This blog has been a great motivator.
As I looked through my list I picked my five favorites so far this year. On Writing by Stephen King is my favorite this year, hands down. I also really liked Four Seasons in Rome by Anthony Doerr, Fear & Trembling by Amelie Nothomb, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore, and The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver.
Anyone else have a favorite for the year so far?

Congratulations on meeting your goal already! I think my favorite for the year so far is A Free Life by Ha Jin.
That’s a great achievement. My favourites are Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (it made me cry), The Reader by Bernhard Schlink (very moving) and Little Hut of Leaping Fishes by Chiew-Siah Tei (just read; very captivating). You can see that I like to dig up books by foreign authors so that I could widen my horizon.
Congratulations! This year my favorites (so far) are Life of Pi by Yann Martel and I AM Legend by Richard Matheson.
Very good recommendations. I think I have The Reader in my large READ ME pile. Is the I Am Legend what the movie was based on? If so, I could probably skip it. I’ll add the rest to my list to take to the library next week. I’ve already got Animal, Vegetable, Miracle on there, Bermudaonion 🙂
